The band

Jaël

Jaël

“I dreamed about how this album would sound, how the songs would fit together. If I had to describe this record I would say that, ‘It is about a girl with a fragile voice stepping into a boys’ world.”

Essentially it all comes down to belief. Jaël, the winsome frontwoman and songwriter for the effervescent Lunik, has pushed away the doubts and fears that used to crowd her. Musically, the band have charted a new course over the months that led to the genesis of the stunning new album ‘Small Lights In The Dark’ and that process of change threatened to darken Jaël’s mood. “Lights in the dark are a common sign of hope,” she explains, “and I have realised to let go of my worries. Everything now just comes down to the songs themselves – they are my small lights”.

CHRIGEL BOSSHARD

CHRIGEL BOSSHARD

“No more synthesisers or artificial sequencers, this album has an honest feel and I can’t wait to perform it live. I bring power and energy to the music; I’m the live guy!”

For Lunik’s paragliding drummer, stepping away from the realities of life on earth is a regular occurrence, but he’s amazed at the progression that Lunik have demonstrated with the new album.  “No more synthesisers or artificial sequencers, this album has an honest feel and I can’t wait to perform it live.  I bring power and energy to the music; I’m the live guy!”  Chrigel is a technically accomplished drummer, who brings a real class and flourish to his playing.  “This is what I do, when I’m not playing music I’m doing sport, gym-work, drummer stuff to prepare for the live situation!” Chrigel was the only member of the band to complete his National Service, the rest of the band were rather conveniently declared mentally unsound..!

CEDRIC MONNIER

CEDRIC MONNIER

I’m a very enthusiastic guy, and my energy drives people on. My way of playing also supports the sometimes melancholic structure of our songs.”

Time was the luxury that allowed Lunik to create such an accomplished album, according to keyboard player Cedric. “We built from scratch, from a blank canvas”.   The album has an organic, natural feel to it, “a nice warm sound, but with an edge”.  Though he is part of the creative unit, Cedric is still blown away by some of the songs that Lunik have produced.  “Jael’s voice is incredible, when listening to the first mixes I honestly had tears in my eyes.  It’s moving and it touches me, that’s what music is about.”

LUK ZIMMERMANN

LUK ZIMMERMANN

“Listen to our album and you’ll get caught by the music – melancholic Pop that makes you happy!”

Guitarist and songwriter Luk sees Lunik’s new album as, “a huge step forward for the band,” and he’s rightly proud of it.  For him the album is an accessible Pop album, scored through with the complexities and twists that lift it into the realms of the really special.  By demoing the tracks live Lunik were able to really identify the key factors that make each song work and bring them to the fore.  It is hard for him to pick favourites but, “I really like ‘He’s Quite Something’ and ‘Born To Be Sad’ was a great song even at the demo stage.”
